The body of a 40-year-old man was found hanging on the outer wall of Nahargarh Fort on Friday with anti-“Padmavati” messages scribbled on nearby rocks. The police were treating it as a case of suicide.

The deceased, Chetan Kumar Saini, worked as a jewellery-maker in the Shashtrinagar area, DCP-North Satyendra Singh said.

“‘Padmavati’ ka virodh karne valon, hum kile par sirf putley nahi latkate, hum mein hai dum (Hey ‘Padmavati’ protesters, we don't just hang effigies from fort walls, we have guts),” read one of the messages.

While another message written in Hindi read: “Log ‘Padmavati’ ke putley jala rahein hain, hum khud ko khatam kar rahein hain (People are burning ‘Padmavati’ posters’ effigies, while we are ending our lives).”

The DCP said prima facie it appeared to be a case of suicide though the reason was yet to be ascertained.

The man had left home informing his wife around 3.30 pm on Thursday and reached the place on foot. He took some selfies standing on the fort wall and made a call to his wife around 5.30 pm. A plastic rope was found around the neck of the deceased. The police were informed by a passerby at 8 am on Friday.

The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem.
