Arjuna awardee shooter booked on rape charge

NEW DELHI: Arjuna awardee sportsman has been booked on charges of having raped a fellow shooter, police said on Sunday. The complainant said that the suspect recently visited her home in Chanakyapuri on her birthday and gave her a drink laced with sedatives.

New Delhi, December 4

Arjuna awardee sportsman has been booked on charges of having raped a fellow shooter, police said on Sunday. 

"A case of rape has been registered at Chanakyapuri police station on the complaint of the national level woman shooter. We will take action as per law," said a senior police officer.

In her complaint, the woman said that she has known the suspect, an Olympian, for more than two years. She said she had been training for national championships at the Sports Authority of India’s shooting range, where she met the suspect and was later romantically involved with him. The suspect even promised to marry her, the woman has claimed said.

The complainant said that the suspect recently visited her home in Chanakyapuri on her birthday and gave her a drink laced with sedatives. She was raped when she was unconscious, the woman has claimed.

The victim's medical examination has confirmed the rape. — Agencies
