Army arrests UPLA chief

GUWAHATI: The Army today arrested commander-in-chief of United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) Nikunja Kathar along with two cadres.



Guwahati, July 25

The Army today arrested commander-in-chief of United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) Nikunja Kathar along with two cadres.

In a joint operation by Army and police, Kathar, who was wanted for killing Nityananda Goswami, SP of West Karbi Anglong district, in June 2014, was arrested along with two accomplices, officials said.

Kathar is suspected to be involved in acts of killing, extortion and abductions. He is an ex-UPDS cadre instrumental in raising, training and illegally equipping UPLA. — PTI
