The Army today busted a large training camp and killed three hardcore tribal militants belonging to the banned Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT) outfit after a fierce gun battle near Duni Tokbi Gaon in Karbi Anglong hill district of Assam during a joint operation with the Assam Police.

A Defence spokesman said troops of the Red Horn Division launched the operation on specific information about the presence militants in the area. The militants opened fire on the search teams and tried to flee. But the security forces plugged the escape routes and engaged the militants in an encounter.

The security forces also busted a well stocked hideout and recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and various other warlike stores including an AK series rifle, two pistols, six bags and various incriminating documents.

The Army claimed the successful operation had dealt a blow to the militants and their designs to carry out subversive activities, especially in Karbi Anglong district.

The Army engaged in counter-insurgency operation in Assam claimed to have broken the backbone of Bodo tribe militant group NDFB (Songbijit), which was involved in the massacre of Adivasis in Sonitpur district of Assam in December last year through sustained operation on the instructions of the Union Home Ministry that has ruled out any talks with the NDFB(S).
