New Delhi, May 25
Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh will meet heads of diplomatic missions of African countries, Union Minister for External Affairs said on Wednesday as the recent killing of a man from Congo has once again brought into spotlight growing racist attacks in the country.
“Have asked my colleague VK Singh to meet the heads of missions of African countries in Delhi and assure them of Indian Government's commitment to the safety and security of African nationals in India,” Swaraj said in a tweet on the Ministry’s office Twitter account on Wednesday.
“General VK Singh will also hold meetings with African students in metro cities to assure them of their safety and security,” said another tweet.
A man from Congo was beaten to death in Delhi less than a week ago after he had an argument with some drunken men over hiring an auto. The men chased him some 20 metres before he was beaten to death with a stone.
The attack has drawn condemnation from African nationals in the country and concern for their safety. — Agencies
