Bihar ex-CMs Lalu, Mishra get 5-year jail in 3rd fodder scam case

RANCHI: A special CBI court here sent RJD chief Lalu Prasad and former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra to five years in jail in the third fodder scam case on Wednesday.

A special CBI court here sent RJD chief Lalu Prasad and former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra to five years in jail in the third fodder scam case on Wednesday.

The court convicted 50 people, including Lalu Prasad and Mishra, and acquitted six others in the fodder scam pertaining to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 83.13 crore from Chaibasa treasury of Jharkhand in 1992-93.

Lalu Prasad, who was convicted to 3.5 years in the second fodder scam in connection with the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from Devghar treasury of Jharkhand, is lodged in Birsa Munda jail here.

The CBI had registered a case of fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 83.13 crore from Chaibasa treasury against 76 people in 1996. The probing agency had chargesheeted against 56 accused in 2001.
