Centre for petrol, diesel under GST regime

Ahmedabad, September 23

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said here today that his ministry was in favour of petrol and diesel being included in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime.

He claimed that the price of these items would come down to “normal” level by Diwali.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of an official function to inaugurate a skill development centre at Adalaj, Pradhan said he believed that the tax rate on petrol and diesel should be same all over the country as that would be in the people’s interest.

He said the Centre had asked the GST Council to consider implementing the new taxation regime in the petroleum sector. — OC
