Guwahati, December 17

The Centre’s initiative to provide either citizenship or long-term visa to Hindu refugees from Bangladesh has evoked sharp reactions in Assam where unabated illegal migration from Bangladesh has posed threat to the identity of the indigenous population.

The influential All-Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has strongly disapproved of the BJP government’s move and stated that illegal migrants from Bangladesh must be deported from Assam as per the Assam Accord irrespective of their religion.
