Congress, BJP in a war of words over SC verdict on Loya case

NEW DELHI: Even as the Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the petitions seeking an independent probe into the Judge Loya case, politics began over the issue. Even as the Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the petitions seeking an independent probe into the Judge Loya case, politics began over the issue. While the Congress claimed that the verdict had left some unanswered questions, the BJP accused the Congress of backing the “politically motivated PILs”.

The Congress said it would accept the SC observations on Judge BH Loya’s death if the circumstances of the death raised by people were adequately addressed.

Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said, “I am prepared to accept  a) heavy emphasis in SC Loya case regarding veracity of accompanying judges b) anguish regarding scandalous arguments (c) initiation of contempt if it arises and (d) provided it is accompanied by solid reasons rebutting the 7/8 suspicious circumstances raised. Absent that, above lamentations not enough.”

Singhvi also tweeted that the Loya case judgment would raise more questions and leave many unanswered unless logical reasons were found in it.

“Dispassionate analysis of Loya judgment must await its full reasoning. But unless logical reasons found in it, it will raise more questions and leave many unanswered,” Singhvi tweeted.

Responding to the judgment, he said the Supreme Court could remove suspicion only by dealing with them directly.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesman Sambit Patra lashed out at the Congress accusing it of trying to score political points through the “politically motivated” PIL. He alleged that the Congress was trying to politicise the judiciary and the controversy was manufactured by the Congress.
