NEW DELHI: The Election Commission today asked the poll-bound states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa not to announce examination schedules without consulting it.

New Delhi, December 8

The Election Commission today asked the poll-bound states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa not to announce examination schedules without consulting it.

"The commission is aware that the annual examinations at various levels are generally due in the first half of next year. The commission wants that there is no clash between the election programme and the examination schedule that may be framed by state education boards," the commission told the states.

While the term of the Legislative Assemblies of Goa, Manipur and Punjab will come to an end on March 18, that of Uttarakhand will expire on March 26 and of Uttar Pradesh on May 27.

The EC is likely to announce the poll schedule for these states later this month or early January. PTI
