CPM supports no-confidence motion

NEW DELHI: The CPM today formally extended support to the no-confidence motion moved in Lok Sabha by TDP and YSR Congress against the NDA government with regard demand for special status to Andhra Pradesh.

New Delhi, March 17

The CPM today formally extended support to the no-confidence motion moved in Lok Sabha by TDP and YSR Congress against the NDA government with regard demand for special status to Andhra Pradesh.

The issue, among others, was discussed by the party during its Politburo’s two-day meeting, which concluded today. It questioned Lok Sabha’s presiding officer in adjourning the House even while more than 10 per cent of the members stood on the floor in favour of the motion. The presiding officer adjourned the Lok Sabha on the plea that the House was not in order, it added. The party demanded implementation of the assurance given by the Centre on the issue of special status to the state.

Its communiqué said: “The government’s betrayal on this promise is unacceptable. This government’s all round failure and evasion of parliamentary accountability will be highlighted in the debate on the motion.” — TNS

Ready to face it: BJP

I want to tell the Congress and Opposition members that there is confidence inside and outside the House. That’s why the BJP is ready to face the no-trust motion. Ananth Kumar, Union minister
