Amid crisis in the Nagaland People’s Front (NPF)-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN ) government in Nagaland, Dr Shurhozelie, president  of the NPF, claimed that the Union Home Ministry has directed Nagaland Governor P.B.Acharya to summon the Assembly for a floor test and that necessary directives were issued to the Nagaland BJP president in this regard.

He also expressed confidence that “not all dissidents would go against the official party whip” and get disqualified as a consequence. Therefore, he said, there was no threat to “our party’s government under the leadership of Chief Minister T.R.Zeliang”. Dr Shurhozelie was in New Delhi to meet Central leadership of the BJP, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP is one of the constituents in the DAN government.

Dr Shurhozelie informed the gathering that BJP leaders have confirmed that the alliance with the DAN will continue and nothing will be done to destabilise the only NDA-aligned state government in the north-east.

He also said the Prime Minister at an earlier meeting on January 28 reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment not to destabilise the DAN government.

The crisis in the DAN started with some of the NPF legislators loyal to former Chief Minister N Rio, now an MP, demanded ouster of Chief Minister T R Zeliang, claiming that he had lost confidence of majority of NPF legislators.
