New Delhi, May 10
Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin today met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and the two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Russia next month.
Civil nuclear trade between the two countries, trade and investments were some of the issues that came up for discussions during the meet.
PM Modi will be travelling to Moscow next month to hold the annual summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Modi will also be the chief guest at the 21st St Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 1 and 2.
Swaraj said relations with Russia were one of the strongest pillars of India’s foreign policy. India is trying hard to balance its growing partnership with the US alongside the historical ties it has shared with Russia.
“We decided to take forward our cooperation in civil nuclear, trade and investments among other areas,” Swaraj said after talks with Rogozin.
During the meeting of India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC), a key forum to address major issues concerning bilateral ties, both sides also took stock of the implementation of various key bilateral initiatives. — TNS
