Fire at MII Week event: FIR registered against Wizcraft

MUMBAI: An event management company has been booked for negligence for disregarding safety norms for a fire that blazed at a cultural event during the recently held ''Make in India Week'', a spokesperson of Mumbai Police said on Frida

An event management company has been booked for negligence for disregarding safety norms for a fire that blazed at a cultural event during the recently held 'Make in India Week', a spokesperson of Mumbai Police said on Friday.

“We have registered a case against the organisers, Wizcraft, under various sections, including negligence,” Mumbai police spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni said.

An inferno blazed at a cultural event held as part of the Central Government’s investment summit at Mumbai’s Girgaum Chowpatty on February 14. Several Bollywood celebrities and political leaders — including Maharahstra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis — were present at the event, although nobody was reported injured.

The fire is estimated to have caused a loss of Rs 5 crore.

Mumbai Fire Department said a defective electric circuit caused the fire and LPG cylinders kept under the stage despite safety warnings is believed to have fuelled it. Wizcraft brought the LPG cylinders to the venue create an imagery of Lord Ganesh.

"This act of the organiser, Wizcraft International Entertainment, shows wilful negligence/wilful flouting of the fire safety instructions," the inquiry report said. — PTI
