Medak, December 27
A major fire broke out at one of the pandals of ‘Ayutha Chandi Maha Yagnam' orgainsed by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in Telangana on Sunday afternoon.
No casualties were reported and four fire tenders were on the spot dousing the fire, according to the reports.
People turned up in large number to witness the Chandi Yagam on its penultimate day at Rao’s farmhouse in Erravelli village, forcing organisers on Saturday to create more space. More than 2 lakh people attended the yagnam in addition to VIPs.
Reports claim that 2,000 priests from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are taking part in the five-day mega 'yagna' being performed by Rao.
KCR invited several prominent leaders from across the country, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
Rao has spent about Rs. 7 crore on the religious event. Although the chief minister claimed he was funding the event himself and would not come out of the state budget, critics have questioned need for the extravagance as the state reels under drought. — Agencies
