Fire in Deepika Padukone''s high-rise building contained

MUMBAI: At least 90 residents were evacuated safely after the fire broke out on the 33rd floor of the Beaumonte Towers in Prabhadevi here on Wednesday afternoon.

Mumbai, June 13

A portion of a multi-storey building here that housed the home and office of Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone was engulfed in a fire on Wednesday.

The fire began on the top floor of the 33-floor building, fire department officials said. It was reported at 2.08 pm, and had spread to the 32nd floor by the time it was contained five hours later.

No casualties were reported. Some 90 people, including the actress’s staff, were evacuated from the building.

The actress was not in the building, but tweeted later to say that she was safe. The fire damaged neither her home nor her office, sources close to the actress said.

Her tweet said: "I am safe. Thank You everyone. Let us pray for our firefighters who are at site risking their lives".

At least 10 fire engines, two quick response vans, five water tankers have been put in service to douse the fire.

Police said they would investigate what caused the fire and register a case. PTI
