Union Minister for State and Bihar leader Giriraj Singh today regretted in Lok Sabha his racist remarks on Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her husband Rajiv Gandhi, a former Prime Minister.
Singh, Minister of State for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), had made derogatory comments against the two prompting the Congress to create uproar in the Lok Sabha as the second leg of the Budget session commenced after a three-week break today.
“If my comments have caused offence to anyone, I regret,” Singh said.
The Opposition had earlier demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s apology and minister’s resignation.
Giriraj Singh has been widely condemned for saying earlier this month: “If Rajiv Gandhi had married a Nigerian woman and not a white-skinned woman, then would the Congress have accepted her leadership?”
