Gorakhpur deaths: Medical college principal suspended

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday suspended RK Mishra, the principal of Gorakhpur’s BRD medical college with immediate effect.

Lucknow, August 12

The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday suspended RK Mishra, the principal of Gorakhpur’s BRD medical college with immediate effect.                       

The decision was announced by Minister for Medical Education Ashutosh Tandon at a joint press conference at Gorakhpur.                                               

While Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh claimed that the deaths were not due to the lack of oxygen.

He said the previous records showed that on an average in the month of August, from 19 to 22 children died every day at the BRD hospitals.                       

There will be a high-level probe to be held by the Chief Secretary to investigate why money was not transferred to oxygen vendor’s account despite it having been released on August 5.
