The Union Cabinet today approved enhancing the retirement age of government doctors working in various departments to 65 years. The current retirement age ranges between 60 and 62 years.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, decided that doctors would hold administrative posts till the age of 62 and thereafter their services shall be placed in non-administrative positions.

Health Minister JP Nadda welcomed the decision, saying it’s pragmatic and will strengthen health services. The ministry hopes the move will not only help in improving academic activities in medical colleges but also in implementing national health programmes.

“The decision may not have much financial implications as a large numbers of posts are lying vacant and the incumbents would continue to work in their existing capacity against sanctioned posts. Around 1,445 doctors of various ministries and departments of the Central Government will be benefited,” the minister said.

The superannuation age of doctors under the administrative control of the Ministry of AYUSH (AYUSH doctors), Department of Defence (civilian doctors under Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Service), Department of Defence Production (Indian Ordnance Factories Health Service Medical Officers), dental doctors under Health & Family Welfare, dental doctors under the Ministry of Railways and doctors working in higher education and technical institutions has been enhanced to 65. — TNS

Mobile towers in Cantt

New Delhi: In order to improve mobile phone connectivity, the Cabinet  approved installation of telecom towers in all Army cantonments. Telecom companies frequently complain about lack of adequate space for installing towers around defence cantonments, which lead to an increase in call drops. The government had previously allowed the towers to be installed in government buildings.
