Heatwave conditions sweeping across Rajasthan claimed life of a person outside trauma centre at SMS Hospital on Friday night even as Sriganganagar recorded a high of at 48.3 degrees Celsius.

An elderly man, yet to be identified, fell unconscious outside the trauma centre after which he was shifted to the Emergency ward, where he succumbed probably due to heatstroke, police said today quoting the hospital doctors.

Churu recorded 48 degrees Celsius on Saturday, while Jaipur saw season's hottest day at 45.1 degrees Celsius.

Normal life was severely affected with rising temperature not only during the day but also at night.

Dusty winds also hit western Rajasthan's Jodhpur, Bikaner, Barmer and Jaisalmer districts last night.

Heatwave continues in Punjab, Haryana

CHANDIGARH: Heatwave conditions also continued to prevail in most parts of Punjab and Haryana today with Hisar once again turning out to be the hottest place in the region by recording a maximum temperature of 46.1 degrees Celsius.

Hisar's high was three notches above normal, the MeT Department said, adding that the maximum temperature at Ambala and Karnal settled at 38.1 degrees Celsius and 38 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Chandigarh, the common capital of both the states, registered a maximum temperature of 39.1 degrees Celsius.

In Punjab, Amritsar had a hot day at 41.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, while Ludhiana and Patiala too sizzled at 40.7 degrees Celsius and 39.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

The MeT Department has forecast a light rain or thundershowers at isolated places of the two states in the next 48 hours. — With PTI inputs
