Mussoorie BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi, accused of allegedly attacking state police horse “Shaktiman” during a protest, was today remanded in 14-day judicial custody.

Sources said a local police team led by SP (city) Ajay Singh today arrested the MLA from a hotel in the Patel Nagar area. It took him to the Shashpur police station and later produced him in the additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) court at Dakrani, Vikasnagar.

A case has been registered against MLA Ganesh Joshi under various sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act and the Indian Penal Code at the Nehru colony police station.

The sources said the Nainital High Court rejected a PIL seeking Joshi’s participation in scheduled voting on the state Budget.

The city police yesterday arrested BJP activist Pramod Bora from Haldwani. He was accused of snatching a baton from horse rider CMP Ravinder Singh during the protest on Monday.

Police officials said Mussoorie MLA Joshi and his associates were allegedly responsible for precipitating the fall of the police horse during the protest which caused multiple fractures in his left hind leg.
