India came alive in Hungary on Thursday with a maiden display of Indian Traditional And Fusion Fashion organised by the Indian embassy in collaboration with Vinay Gupta, Managing Director of Gait-N-Grace, to mark 70 years of Indian independence.

Titled Alluring India 2017, the evening celebrated India's 70th Independence through fashion shows featuring Silk Saris, embroidered Lehengas and mermaid gowns, as a tribute to India's rich weaves and heritage. The traditional Indian wear collection had a touch of contemporary ensemble. A live demonstration of how to pleat the nine-yard long saree and enactment of Subhadra Kumari Chauhan’s poem ‘Jhansi ki Rani’ on the legendary Rani Laxmi Bai were lined up.

A glittering function that was inaugurated by Ambassador of India, Rahul Chhabra, and

Peter Medgyessy, former Hungarian prime minister witnessed several ambassadors, mayors and senior government officials in attendance. Indian music flowed through the night at Balna — the historical brick building embraced in a metal glass shell, overlooking Budapest city and Danube river.
