I-T notice to NGO after tribute to lynching victim

NEW DELHI: Civil rights activist Harsh Mander today questioned a recent Income-Tax notice to Centre for Equity Studies of which he is a director.

New Delhi, September 23

Civil rights activist Harsh Mander today questioned a recent Income-Tax notice to Centre for Equity Studies of which he is a director. He said the notice smacked of state intimidation.

Mander questioned the timing of the notice which came days after RSS sympathiser Rakesh Sinha told Mander in a TV debate that the funding of all of Mander’s organisations would be investigated.

The debate was being held on the “Karwaan-e-Mohabbat” that was held to seek justice for hate violence victims. “On September 15, the Karwan was to stop at the site of Pehlu Khan’s lynching to pay him tribute but on its eve, Hindu Jagran Manch, Bajrang Dal and VHP said they would not let this happen. But we managed to do so,” Mander said. “Centre for Equity Studies had nothing to do with the event.” — TNS
