In UP, 407 officers shifted 2,454 times in five years

LUCKNOW: The Akhilesh Yadav government shuffled its IPS cadre of 407 officers 2,454 times during its five-year rule from March 2012-2017.

The Akhilesh Yadav government shuffled its IPS cadre of 407 officers 2,454 times during its five-year rule from March 2012-2017. Providing details of IPS transfers to RTI activist Nutan Thakur, Uttar Pradesh IG (Karmik) PC Meena has admitted that 78 officers were transferred 10 or more times during this period.

This means that on an average 1.3 IPS officers were transferred every single day for five years. It also means that on an average, every IPS officer was transferred six times, points out Thakur.

With 20 transfers in five years, Umesh Kumar Srivastava tops the list while Anees Ahmad Ansari with 18 transfers comes a close second. Similarly, Rajendra Prasad Pandey was transferred 17 times and Dilip Kumar 16 times.

Five IPS officers, including the recently suspended Himanshu Kumar, were transferred 15 times each.

Another 215 IPS officers were transferred five or more times during this five-year period. Among the least transferred officers was Sanjay Tarde. Shifted to CBCID. he remained there. Similarly, Kamal Saxena, who was transferred as Secretary, Home Department, remained on the post.

Among the IPS officers suspended during this period, IG Amitabh Thakur was the only one to have been suspended for 10 months. Most others were reinstated within a few days or months.

An IPS officer in Uttar Pradesh is transferred 27.3 times during his career, reveals the RTI reply.

IG Pramod Kumar Mishra has been transferred 55 times in his career of 33 years, IG Vijay Kumar Garg 52 times, DIG Umesh Kumar Srivastava and IGRK Swarnkar 51 times and Gopal Lal Meena 50 times.

Fifty IPS officers in the UP cadre have been transferred 40 or more times in their career.
