Indefinite curfew was on Friday imposed in Banswara after an altercation between two communities over a disputed religious place in Kalikamata-Khatwar locality leading to arson, stone pelting, and lathi charge in which at least 10 people were injured.
“The situation is tense but under control after the imposition of curfew in the old city of Banswara. Two groups of different communities clashed late on Thursday and indulged in arson and stone pelting”, SP Banswara Kaluram Rawat told The Tribune.
There has been a disputed religious place on which no prayer was held following a mutual understanding, but last night some persons of a community lit ‘agarbatti’ which was objected to by other community people leading to violent clashes.
At least ten persons, including five cops, got injured in stone pelting, lathi-charge and bursting of tear gas shell, the SP said.
Three cars and four two-wheelers were gutted in the arson, while a few miscreants were rounded up by Kotwali police in fresh incidents of clashes after Section 144 was imposed late last night, he said.
