New Delhi, October 31

India and China today held the second round of talks on India’s membership bid for the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

This is the second time that representatives from both nations have met on the issue since the plenary session of the NSG in Seoul in June at which India failed to gain entry into the grouping. The two representatives had first met here on September 13.

Sources in the government here described the talks as being “substantive and constructive” and said “the engagement will continue as per the directive of the leadership”. The talks were held in Beijing between Joint Secretary (Disarmament and International Security) Amandeep Singh Gill and Director General of Department of Arms Control Wang Qun.
