Patna, February 21

The Patna police on Wednesday arrested Income Tax Department Joint Commissioner Rambabu Gupta for allegedly molesting a minor in Patna.

The victim, who is preparing for medical entrance tests at a private coaching institute ‘Aklavya-Super 50’, hails from northeastern state of Sikkim. According to the police, Gupta, who is also the mentor of the institute, allegedly barged into the victim’s hostel room and molested her two days ago. He also allegedly tried to hush up the matter by offering money to the victim.

In a state of shock, she called up her father who arrived here from Sikkim and lodged a complaint at the the Digha police station.

Following the complaint, Gupta, a 2005-batch Indian Revenue Service officer, was arrested.  “Rambabu Gupta was produced before the court from where he was sent to judicial custody. The investigation is on and it is too early to comment on whether he molested her or not,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Shibli Nomani said.

The coaching institute mentored by the officer provides free boarding and tuition to meritorious students from economically deprived backgrounds for competitive examinations.
