Patna, May 1
Jawaharlal Nehru University student leader Kanhaiya Kumar, who faced sedition charges, was shown black flags at a function on Sunday by two unidentified people who were roughed up by his supporters before being detained by the police for questioning.
The two people belonging to a little-known outfit called 'Youth Swaraj' showed black flags to the JNUSU president and began shouting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ while Kumar was speaking at a function 'Azadi' in SK Memorial hall organised by AISF and AIYF.
Kumar’s supporters beat up the two people in the hall. The two — identified as Nitish Kumar and Manikant Mani — were later detained.
"Police have detained two persons in this regard," Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj said.
Police also suspect the two to be members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Kumar, president of JNU Student Union, said later: "I am not scared of anything whether you hurl a shoe or a stone. ...They want to disturb my programmes as they are uncomfortable with my questions”.
Kumar is one of the five people who faced sedition charges for anti-national activities at an event held on the JNU campus on February 9. He was arrested and later released on bail. — PTI
