Maharashtra Govt scraps 5% education quota for Muslims

MUMBAI: The BJP-Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra has scrapped the five per cent quota for the Muslims in the state’s educational institutions.

Mumbai, March 5

The BJP-Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra has scrapped the five per cent quota for the Muslims in the state’s educational institutions.

The Prithviraj Chavan government had brought in reservations for the Muslims in jobs and education shortly via an ordinance before the Maharashtra Assembly elections last year. While reservations in government jobs for the Muslims were struck down by the Bombay High Court, quotas for the minority community in educational institutions were upheld. — TNS
