The Rajasthan Police have arrested a 36-year-old man of Jaisalmer district for allegedly sharing confidential information about Indian Army’s activities with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Nawab Khan of Gaanga village under Sam police station has been arrested under the Official Secrets Act, Additional Director-General (Intelligence) Umesh Mishra said on Wednesday.

After preliminary interrogation by intelligence agencies of the state and Centre, the accused was brought to Jaipur on March 10. Rajasthan Police’s State Special Branch (SSB) and a joint Interrogation Committee (JIC) comprising sleuths of different security and intelligence agencies claimed to have found incriminating evidence against Khan.

The police suspect that Khan was given time-bound tasks by the ISI to monitor the activities of the Indian Army, especially in the wake of heightened activities on the western front, after Pulwama terror attack. The accused used code words to share confidential information and video calls to communicate the movement of Army troops with his ISI handlers, he added.

Khan was also given special training session organised by the ISI, the ADG said, adding, after living 22 days in Pakistan he came to Rajasthan where he used his ‘jeep-safari’ business for spying in Jaisalmer and Barmer distrcits. Sleuths have also seized his mobile phone and other electronic gadgets.
