Minister: No loan waiver for farmers

New Delhi, May 22

Ruling out any loan waiver for farmers, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today said the NDA government’s focus was on empowering them. “Instead , we intend to invest in various schemes and initiatives to boost their income,” he said.

The minister claimed loan waivers could not solve the farmers’ woes. Hence, the focus was on bringing down input costs and providing facilities to farmers.

The demand for loan waiver has come from all quarters after UP waived loans of small/marginal farmers as promised by the BJP in its poll manifesto.
