Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Thursday celebrated his 50th birthday by getting fuel stations in Mumbai and surrounding areas to sell petrol at cheaper rates. As many as 48 fuel stations, including 36 in Mumbai, sold petrol at discounts ranging from Rs 4 to Rs 9.
“Only two-wheelers are eligible,” posters put out by the MNS at the stations declared. There were queues of two-wheelers at fuel stations with most buyers filling tanks. The party would pay the difference between the official and discounted rates, said MNS leaders. Claiming the party initiative had got a good response, Sandeep Deshpande said: “We hope the PM will come up with a scheme to reduce the petrol prices.” — TNS
