Veteran social activist Anna Hazare today termed the Modi government at the Centre as “anti-farmer,” alleging it was only catering to industrialists. “Farmers are being denied MSP for their produce as well as various concessions, such as free power. The Modi government has failed the farmers,” he said as he toured parts of Rajasthan.
Addressing a press conference, he alleged both the UPA and NDA governments had “weakened” the provisions of the Lokpal Bill. On the PM’s slogan “Na khaunga, na khane doonga,” Hazare asked how then had the various bank scams occurred. “Unless the Lokpal Bill is brought, corruption will prevail”, he warned.
On the clash between the Delhi Government’s Chief Secretary and MLAs, he said violence had no place in democracy. “Neither Delhi CM Arvind Kejariwal nor PM Modi will do anything for the welfare of the country. The two are impeding development,” he remarked.
Hazare said his protest march to Delhi was to press for a “competent Lokpal” and to highlight farmers’ plight. “It is time now again for the people to wake up and to elect a government that works for the welfare of the public,” he added.
