Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Iran later this month. Sources indicated the visit might take place at month-end, but the dates were yet to be finalised.
With the government looking towards the Middle East to meet India’s increasing energy demands, the Iran visit will be significant. The PM’s visit to Iran will follow the back-to-back visits of Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Their visits also helped lay the groundwork for Modi’s forthcoming visit. One of the highlights of Modi’s visit is likely to be the Chabahar Agreement that will operationalise the strategic port and give India access to Central Asia, bypassing Pakistan.
