Modi promises ‘bure din’ for looters

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a scathing attack on the Congress saying he never guaranteed “achche din” for those who had “looted” the country.

The Prime Minister, while presenting the report card of NDA government’s first year, said they had “destroyed power circles” and broken the power-broker nexus controlling the country.

Those complaining about the NDA government were the ones who had suffered the most because of anti-corruption efforts over the past one year, he said in his address during a mega rally at the ancestral village of BJP ideologue and Jana Sangh founder member Deendayal Upadhyaya.

“Some people are screaming because for 60 years their voices were heard in the power circles of Delhi. ‘Sab logon ke achche din aaye, par kuch logon ke bure din aaye’ (most people have witnessed good days, but for some bad days have begun),” he said.

“I did not guarantee ‘achche din’ to those who looted the nation for years. Those who have tried to rob the country are making the accusations. The ‘broker raj’ has ended in India. For those who looted the country, bad days are here, which is why they are making all the noise. Their problems will only grow in the days to come,” said Modi while targeting the Congress, which has been questioning his “achche din” slogan in the run-up to the general election.

“Have you heard about any scam, nepotism or remote control over the past one year,” he questioned the public. “I can assure you that those who have harmed the country will face more trouble in the coming days,” said Modi.

Listing out his government’s achievements, the Prime Minister promised to “spend 100 paise in a rupee on the people it was meant for”. Former Congress Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had said only 15 paisa in a rupee meant for social schemes actually reached the needy.

The Prime Minister said Rs 27,000 crore belonging to the poor workers had been “rotting” in the government treasury all this while. “Now there is a unique identity number, so whenever they quit a job, the unique ID number is transferred and so is the money,” he said.

The Prime Minister did not make any new promises as he reiterated commitment to the poor while listing the achievements of his government, including social sector schemes and initiatives for the farming community.

Modi said the world was now trusting India and investing in the country. “Indians who were investing their money abroad now have more faith in India,” he added.

The Prime Minister said farmers’ suicide must not be politicised. “We must look into the reasons behind their disillusionment after 60 years of Independence. The government was committed to the betterment of farmers by improving the health of the soil through better irrigation facilities, interlinking of rivers and increasing power generation.
