The Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway will be equipped with charging stations every 35 km thus making it ready to serve electric vehicles as soon as it becomes operational, according to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation which is the nodal agency to construct the facility.

MSRDC officials said 50 charging stations to be constructed on the proposed super communication expressway will be constructed by the state-owned Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL). Both the state and central governments are expected to fund the facility, MSRDC officials said.

The proposed expressway will link the towns of Nashik, Aurangabad, Jalgaon and Amravati to Mumbai and Nagpur. Sites to locate the charging stations have already been identified and required infrastructure will be constructed along with the main highway, according to the corporation.

As they become more accepted electric vehicles will be used to ply between cities and the charging stations would thus become indispensable, MSRDC officials said.

Apart from the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, the Maharashtra government is also pushing for setting up charging stations on the state's main highways.
