Nagaland CM Zeliang resigns, successor to be chosen today

Kohima: Bowing to the sustained pressure by agitating tribal bodies, Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang resigned on Sunday. The Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) legislature party is scheduled to meet on Monday to elect his successor. Speculations are rife that MP and former CM Neiphiu Rio is going to replace Zeliang given that about 50 MLAs in the 60-member Assembly extended support to him at a resort in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park on Saturday. The NPF meeting will be followed by a meeting of the legislature party of Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN). The NPF is the main constituent of the ruling DAN. TNS
