National rifle shooter, 4 others held for killing blue bull

BULANDPUR (UP): A national rifle shooter and four others were arrested for allegedly killing a blue bull in Halpura village under Shikarpur police station area here, the police said today.

A national rifle shooter and four others were arrested for allegedly killing a blue bull in Halpura village under Shikarpur police station area here, the police said today.

National shooter Najam, 35, Mubin, 38, Arman, 28, Muzaffar, 45, and Iqbal, 32, were arrested here last night and the carcass of the antelope and her live calf were seized from their vehicle, SP (Rural) Ashok Kumar said.

The firearm used for killing the bull was also recovered, he said.

A case was registered against the five accused under Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 and they have been sent to jail, the SP said.

Najam is younger brother of ace shooter Mehraj who represented India in London Olympics 2012, Common Wealth games 2011 held in New Delhi and 2014 Asian Games, he said.

The brother duo was booked by the police in February 2012 here for allegedly killing a Sambar deer, he said.

However, the Allahabad High Court had stayed their arrest in the case, he said. — PTI
