Never said BJP came to power on never-to-be fulfilled promises: Gadkari

NEW DELHI: Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday slammed Congress president Rahul Gandhi for reacting on a factually incorrect media report which had quoted the former saying that the "Narendra Modi-led BJP strode to power after the 2014-General Election on the basis of never-to-be fulfilled electoral promises to the people".

Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday slammed Congress president Rahul Gandhi for reacting on a factually incorrect media report which had quoted the former saying that the "Narendra Modi-led BJP strode to power after the 2014-General Election on the basis of never-to-be fulfilled electoral promises to the people".

"I suggest to Rahul Gandhi to get education of Marathi language hire someone to learn the language," Gadkari said.

A media report had mentioned that during an interaction at a Marathi channel 'Reality Show' Gadkari had said the BJP came to power by making fanciful slogans and promises.

The report set tongues wagging in political circles, and provided a handle to opposition parties to take jibes at PM Modi.

Immediately after the report the Congress and Gandhi took to Twitter congratulating Gadkari. Gandhi's refrain has been that Modi gave false assurances during election campaign as mascot of BJP and its Prime Ministerial candidate.

At a press conference regarding issues of Water Resources and Ganga Rejuvenation Ministry, Gadkari said during an interaction in Marathi at 'Reality Show', he had referred to his party's electoral promise of doing away with road toll tax in Maharashtra.

He added that during the interaction he had referred to discussions among some party leaders of the state on pros and cons of making electoral promise regarding the toll. He was part of the discussion.

"I had not mentioned about Prime Minister Narendra Modithere was no mention of BJP or Union government or promise of giving Rs 15 lakh to each person," Gadkari said, adding that a Delhi-based media house weaved a story on the basis of the interaction at the media event. It was all along factually incorrect.

"Rahul Gandhi reacted immediatelywhat do I say of himhe can also check the video recordings of the proceedings of the Reality Show," Gadkari added.

He said the BJP government in Maharashtra has already implemented the promise to do away with the toll tax.
