Nine electoral trusts donated Rs 637.54 cr to parties in 4 yrs

NEW DELHI: Nine electoral trusts donated Rs 637.54 crore to political parties between 2013-14 and 2016-17, with the BJP receiving Rs488.94 crore and the Congress Rs86.65 crore, a report said today.

Nine electoral trusts donated Rs637.54 crore to political parties between 2013-14 and 2016-17, with the BJP receiving Rs 488.94 crore and the Congress Rs86.65 crore, a report said today.

Five national parties received 92.3 per cent (Rs588.44 crore) of the total donations from electoral trusts, while 16 regional parties got only 7.7 per cent (Rs49.09 crore) out of Rs637.54 crore donations from electoral trusts, a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms said. The BJP and the Congress are the only two political parties to receive donations from electoral trusts every financial year, the report added. Total donations to political parties stood at Rs85.37 crore during 2013-14, Rs177.4 crore during 2014-15, Rs49.5 crore during 2015-16 and Rs325.27 crore during 2016-17. — PTI
