Greater Noida, October 28

Home Minister Rajnath Singh accused Pakistan of indulging in a “proxy war” and terrorism, as heavy cross border shelling between the two countries has ratcheted up tensions in the Indian sub-continent.

"The neighbouring country has been carrying out proxy war. But terrorism is not a weapon of the brave but of cowards. Those who fight from behind are called cowards...they take the help of terrorism," he said.

Speaking at the 55th raising day event of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at its camp here, he said strict vigil by the force has resulted in 60 per cent less transgressions into the Indian territory by the Chinese People's Liberation Army this year.

He referred to the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan as he accused the “the neighbour” of trying to destablise the country through terrorism and casting an “evil eye” on its economic progress.

The relationship between India and Pakistan has cooled considerably in the past few months, first due to the unrest in Kashmir, then a militant attack on a military camp in Kashmir’s Uri and a retaliatory strike by the Indian Army on terrorist launch pads in Pakistan in September. More recently, there have been frequent cross-border shelling between the two countries due to repeated truce violations by Pakistan, worsening the ties. — PTI
