Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was busy with his “PR” (public relations) and had done nothing concrete.
“The BJP-led NDA government came to power in May (2014). The Prime Minister has just been doing his personal PR, but no concrete work has been done,” he said leading first road show for party’s election campaigning in Kalkaji assembly constituency in South Delhi.
Addressing the people during the road show, Rahul said the Congress would stage a comeback and accused the BJP government at centre of neglecting the poor for the sake of “three to four” corporate.
He said the Congress was contesting the Assembly election on three issues —providing cheap water and power, home to the poor and night shelter and jobs to unemployed youths.
The Congress vice-president expressed confidence of bringing his party back in power in Delhi. He toured Kalkaji and adjoining areas accompanied by party colleagues, including chief ministerial candidate Ajay Maken, candidate from Kalkaji Subhash Chopra, DPCC president Arvinder Singh Lovely and Sharmishta Mukherjee, daughter of President Pranab Mukherjee.
On AAP, which ruled the state for 49 days last year with the help of the Congress, he said it was “not an issue”. Apparently targeting the Narendra Modi government, Gandhi said: “When will the talks stop? When will the work begin? Work is being done for only three or four industrialists. Nothing is being done for the poor.”
Gandhi arrived in the area at around 3.30 pm and the road show lasted for 80 minutes. He waved to the cheering crowds as he criss-crossed the area mostly of unauthorised colonies and transit camp.
Kalkaji seat is the stronghold of the Shiromani Akali Dal, which is contesting in alliance with the BJP. SAD leader Harmeet Singh Kalka is contesting on the BJP symbol. He is sitting MLA from Kalkaji.
