Guwahati, July 1

Even as the Assam Government is stepping up anti-poacher operations in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) and nearby areas to save one-horned rhinos, recovery of the carcass of a rhino sans its horn in Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park (ONP) in Assam on Thursday has alarmed the authorities.  The tiny national Park in North Assam has around 100 rhinos.

Poachers have struck at ONP after around 18 months. The adult female rhino was killed at the Old Orang camp of the

park, according to Divisional Forest Officer of Mangaldai Wildlife Division S Choudhary. The carcass had a bullet injury mark. Efforts are on to catch the poachers.
