PU condoles Prof Ajit Singh’s death

CHANDIGARH: The Department of Economics, Panjab University (PU), today organised a condolence meeting in memory of Professor Ajit Singh, an eminent economist and professor of the Dr Manmohan Singh Chair, PU, who recently died of a heart attack in the UK.

Chandigarh, June 28

The Department of Economics, Panjab University (PU), today organised a condolence meeting in memory of Professor Ajit Singh, an eminent economist and professor of the Dr Manmohan Singh Chair, PU, who recently died of a heart attack in the UK.

Prominent personalities, who attended the meet, suggested the varsity authorities to start a ‘Prof Ajit Singh memorial lecture’.

The meeting was attended by Justice SS Sodhi (retd), a former Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court; Rajan Kashyap, a former Punjab Chief Secretary; Rashpal Malhotra, Director General of Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID); Prof HS Shergill, Professor Emeritus, PU; AS Desi, a former Dean, Guru Nank Dev University, Amritsar; Prof Gurmel Singh, Vice- Chancellor, Akal University, Talwandi Sabo, and others.

Prof Ajit Singh, who was an emeritus professor at Cambridge University, made fundamental academic contributions in the areas of modern business enterprise, de-industrialisation in advanced and emerging economies and the globalisation of financial and product markets.
