Flash floods activated by torrential rain in parts of Rajasthan has claimed 16 lives and killed at least 800 head of cattle at a ‘gaushala’ of Jalore and Sirohi in the last four days.

As many as 1058 people have been rescued with the help of Army and NDRF teams.

Rising flood level due to overflowing dams on Friday paralysed life and cut off Raniwar and Sanchor towns of Jalore district from rest of the state.

Six deaths have been reported from Jalore, four in Sirohi, and three each in Pali and Barmer districts since last Sunday, a state Disaster Management and Relief Department (DMRD) report said.

However since June 1, about 43 people have died in rain-related mishaps and lightening in Rajasthan.

About 800 cattle head perished in flash flood at ‘gaushalas’ run by Pathmeda Trust in Jalore and Sirohi district in the last 24 hours.

The Principal Secretary of DMRD, Hemant Gera, who is monitoring the flood situation at Jodhpur, said the state government has moved all measures to control the situation and save the human and cattle lives with the help of state relief, NDRF and Army jawans.

Twenty relief camps were set up for villagers in the affected districts, he said.

Railways have partially cancelled about six trains in Jodhpur division after reports of track damage due to heavy downpour, senior PRO Gopal Sharma said.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje held a high level meeting to review the situation which she considered alarming in Jalore and Sirohi.

PCC chief Sachin Pilot has written a letter to Prime Minister appealing a cash relief grant of Rs 500 crore to Rajasthan’s flood-affected people and farmers whose crop is damaged.
