New Delhi, December 16
The Indian Railways has unveiled a five-year plan beginning this financial year to electrify 38,000-km route of which the share of Punjab would be 964 km, whereas Haryana will account for 116 km route.
In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha this week, Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain said the pace of electrification had been increased to achieve 100 per cent electrification of broad gauge (BG) rail routes.
As per the plan, the Railways will complete 4,000 route kilometre in 2017-18, 6,000 in 2018-19, 7,000 in 2019-20, 10,500 each in 2020-21 and 2021-22, the minister said. — TNS
