Chandigarh, July 24
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Naresh Yadav, wanted in connection with the Malerkotla desecration case, was arrested in Delhi today. Earlier in the day, a Punjab Police team raided the MLA’s Mehrauli residence but did not find him there.
Led by SP (Detective) Jaskaran Singh, the team also searched the residences of Yadav's associates. Yadav, believed to be the mastermind behind the desecration of the Quran in Malerkotla on June 25, was booked by the Punjab Police on July 2.

Sources said when called for questioning earlier this month, Yadav and co-accused Vijay Kumar were brought face to face. “The camaraderie they betrayed (as caught on camera) left the investigators with little doubt that the two were conspirators in the case,” they added.
An officer said they had found a pattern in the sacrilege incident in Faridkot in October last year and the one in Malerkotla last month. Yadav has all along denied any role in the incident.
