Sheena murder: Police get key suspects’ custody extended

MUMBAI: Indrani Mukherjea and two other people suspected of killing her 24-year-old daughter Sheena Bora in 2012 would have to remain in police custody until September 7, a local court said on Saturday.

Mumbai, September 5

Indrani Mukherjea and two other people suspected of killing her 24-year-old daughter Sheena Bora in 2012 would have to remain in police custody until September 7, a local court said on Saturday.

Mumbai Police had sought an extension of their custody by claiming that Indrani, a 47-year-old former media executive, was being uncooperative, making the murder investigation difficult.

Indrani, who has been married to former media baron Peter Mukherjea since 13 years, was produced in the court with former husband Sanjeev Khanna, 50, and her driver Shyamvar Rai, 43, both of who are suspected of being involved in the crime.

The trio was then taken to Khar Police Station.

Rai also found a lawyer on Saturday after having none in hearings thus far.

In their remand application, police claimed Indrani Mukherjea had plotted another murder — that of her son Mikhail Bora.

Mikhail Bora has claimed that Indrani attempted to poison him spiking his drink with drugs the day his sister was murdered.

On Friday, police had claimed that digital reconstruction of the skull found in Raigad’s forests had matched Sheena Bora’s face, establishing that the victim was indeed the 24-year-old woman.

Police also claimed they were yet to rule Peter Mukherjea out as suspect.

Indrani, meanwhile, has accused police of orchestrating a media trial in the case. — PTI
