Two teenaged boys on a motorcycle threw acid on five schoolgirls here today. One of the girls was completely defaced. The incident has left the city residents shocked.

The girls, all students of Government Senior Secondary School, Singhpura, were attacked at 3.20 pm while they were returning to Dharmabad village after taking their Class VIII board examination.

The girl who sustained serious face injuries was shifted to Amritsar for treatment. She is out of danger.  Medical College Principal Dr BS Bal said she had suffered injuries on her arm and face.

The girl was allegedly being stalked by one Sajjan Kumar for the past several days. The SSP, Daljinder Singh Dhillon, said the girl (name withheld) had not told her parents about

Sajjan, but had informed her grandfather about his “irksome activities”.

On Monday, her grandfather severely reprimanded Sajjan. A furious Sajjan pledged to take revenge.

A Class X student in the  victim’s school, Sajjan  was recently rusticated by the principal  because of his “nefarious activities”.

Today, Sajjan and his accomplice passed by the girls. One of the girls objected to it. Infuriated, Sajjan threw acid on her face as the other four girls tried to run away. However, they too were injured.

They are now under treatment at the Dera Baba Nanak Civil Hospital.

The SSP said six teams had been formed to trace and arrest the accused.

Sajjan’s acquaintances were being questioned and he would be nabbed soon, the police officer said.
