Nashik, February 14

A college student died after drowning in Waldevi dam while taking a 'selfie' and his friend who jumped into the water to save him died too, police said today.

Ten college students went for a picnic to the dam near Ghoti in Nashik district yesterday, Wadivhare police station in-charge Manohar Patil said.

During the picnic, Sourabh Jagannath Chulbhar (18), resident of CIDCO area here, lost balance when he was taking his picture while standing on a rock of the dam, he said.

His friend, Ajinkya Bhausaheb Gaikar (18), also jumped into the water to save him, but both drowned, Patil said.

Later, some villagers rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies with the help of local fishermen last evening.

Both the bodies were sent to Nashik Civil Hospital for postmortem after the 'panchanama', Patil added. — PTI
